The Climb for the Community team spent all of yesterday on the lower slopes of Mount Rainier training in “mountaineering day school.” This morning climbers started their two-day trek to the summit.

The only woman participating in the Climb for the Community–Molly Nordstrom–is United Way of King County’s board chair and an active community volunteer. Though she is a novice hiker, Molly is an experienced marathon runner and no stranger to physical challenges.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is getting a lot of attention for his participation in United Way of King County’s Climb for the Community. The 50-year-old sports executive was a three-sports star athlete in high school and has been underdoing a rigorous training regimen in preparation for the climb up Mount Rainier.

    United Way of King County’s Climb for the Community begins July 5. Join these community leaders as they show their support for United Way’s Response for Basic Needs and climb to the top of Mount Rainier.

    United Way of King County CEO Jon Fine will do anything to help people in need—even climb a mountain.

    Starting July 5, Jon and a group of community leaders will go on a “Climb for the Community” to the top of Mount Rainier.

    They’re raising money for United Way’s Response for Basic Needs, which provides help for families, disabled people and seniors being hard hit by the economic downturn.
