Holland America cruise and more fabulous prizes up for grabs at Day of Caring After Party!

Last year Microsoft licensing specialist Forrest Marshall participated in United Way of King County’s Day of Caring to give back to his community and to have fun with his co-workers.

He never dreamed a day of volunteering would lead to a free Holland America cruise.

Marshall won the cruise during a prize drawing at the Day of Caring after party. He was enjoying “amazing food, drink and great people” at the event when he heard his named called as the cruise winner.

    “I have never…

PACCAR employees look forward to United Way of King County’s Day of Caring every year—and this year is no exception. International Traffic Manager Neil Dunn recently shared his thoughts on why it’s such a great experience for all involved.

Microsoft’s Leslie Nichols shares her Day of Caring experience

Microsoft employees are always a big presence at our annual Day of Caring, and many of them volunteer year after year.

Leslie Nichols, an administrative assistant in Microsoft’s Global Foundation Services division, has participated for the past four years.

Last year, Leslie’s Day of Caring team packaged donations at Food Lifeline in Shoreline. The project provided a lot of fun moments, but one stood out.  “One of the wonderful things about Food Lifeline is that they track every ounce of food that you are…

Just thought it was time to share a few links with our readers:

  • Here’s an interesting thought.  How crazy am I to even think this cold work??  Go to town, naysayers!
  • Last Sunday, YouTube featured our old friend Mark Horvath and his invisiblepeople.tv site on their main page to help bring some social media exposure to the issue.  Successful?  I stopped counting at 500,000 views.  Mark continues to give voice to the people who we too often ignore at our convenience.
  • It is time! Sign up now for Day of Caring 2010!

    Thanks a billion, UPS!

I have a friend who loves Halloween and carefully plans his costume months in advance. Some of his outfits have been very elaborate, but by far, one of his most well-received costumes was one of the simplest–UPS driver.

People love UPS drivers. When a UPS driver arrives, usually that means you’re getting something important or maybe a nice surprise–like an unexpected birthday gift from a far-off friend.

There’s another reason to love UPS drivers, their co-workers and the company itself–they are incredibly generous with…

    Day of Caring 9.11.09

What do you get when you take 270 local organizations and match them with nearly 9,000 volunteers? Over $1,000,000 worth of volunteer time and one HUGE day of service. On Friday, September 11th, United Way of King County held its 17th annual Day of Caring event, which coincided with the first annual 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, as declared by President Obama earlier this year. I had the opportunity to visit a handful of the hundreds of projects that took place on…
