Day three of Hunger Action week, and KOMO News has posted their third profile of a Hunger Action Week grantee project. Today, KOMO’s Rose Egge reports on the Issaquah Meals Program. I think its fair to say that while all of us at United Way were very excited to have KOMO help us spread the word about Hunger Action Week, their outstanding coverage has been more than we could have hoped for. Read todays story, about the tiny kitchen run completely by volunteers serves over 10,000 meals per year to the people…
KOMO News reporter Heather Reese went out to Woodinville to learn about one of the projects being supported by Hunger Action Week, Farms for Life. “Fresh produce is the hardest thing for non-profits to get their hands on,” she learns so Farms for Life was created in 2009 to make it easier. Clay writes the philanthropy beat for the local business journal and after 5 years in town decided maybe he should take a shot at United Way of King County’s Hunger Challenge. I had coffee with Clay last week, and in our discussion I brought up our work around hunger but I somehow missed that he was going to be taking the challenge this year. In this post on his first day of the challenge Clay voices his concerns about making it through the whole week. …

As a volunteer having completed the count, it is eye opening and soul wrenching to count the number of individuals struggling through difficult periods in their lives. As we strolled down the streets and alleys in the area…
The PR agency Weber Shandwick just released the results of their 2010 Social Impact survey which takes a look at why companies are involved with non profit agencies. Some of the findings may surprise you, in fact, having an impact on critical issues is the number one reason why corporations invest in philanthropic or socially-responsible activities.
I had an opportunity to meet with the Social Impact Team at Weber Shandwick Seattle and to talk about the incredible work our local companies are accomplishing through their…
KOMO’s Elisa Jaffe joined me and a group of volunteers from Old Navy at our new cannery program in Kent. Each week, volunteers can nearly 10,000 pounds of vegetables and transport them to local food banks. Without this program, this healthy food would go bad before it could be distributed to the community. The story will air at about 4:30 p.m. today on KOMO 4 news. Thanks to everyone who is volunteering and doing great work out there, and thanks to KOMO…
