Strengthening Our Community Council News

30 June 2010 No Comment United Way News

Greetings from the Strengthening Our Community Council!  Over the past six months, the SOC council has gone through some staffing transitions as well as shifting our focus from the application and agency contract process to the research and planning phase of our work.  Currently, our council is hard at work on developing a strategic and investment plan that will help to guide our work in the subject areas that we cover: Employment for adults with developmental and other significant disabilities, Youth development and academic success, Older Adults, Health/Mental Health, Abuse and Neglect, & System Support.  This plan will help us to identify, guide and focus our work in helping other non-profit agencies as well as the community at large in the subject areas that we cover. In doing this work, we are utilizing the expertise of people from many sources, internal United Way staff, volunteer council members, input from other non-profit agency partners and other community partners.

Another exciting project that we are working on is the receipt of applications for our newest RFP!  The announcement for this funding opportunity was made on June 23, 2010 and the application deadline is July 14, 2010 at 2pm.  The RFP is seeking proposals from agencies who provide services in King County to older adults with developmental disabilities and their families.   The total funds available is: $34,883.  If you would like the entire funding announcement emailed to you or would like any other information regarding the RFP, please send an email to communityservices@uwkc.org.

The Strengthening Our Community Council will continue to provide our blog readers with updates as we move through the various phases of our work.  Please continue to check out our blog post regularly to read updates about our planning work, our agency partnerships and other council news!
