Marra Farm Volunteering Recap

To celebrate National Volunteer Week, we set up our own little volunteer project which ended up being a blast!
A group of about 20 of us — which we recruited through this blog, Facebook, Twitter, and our mailing list — came out to Marra Farm on Tuesday. When we got there, we learned more about Marra Farm (It’s one of only two historical farms in Seattle and the food grown goes out to the local community, including area food banks!) and then it was off to work!
Most of our volunteering was spent turning beds and planting fresh rows. It was really fun work and it gave us a chance to meet and mingle with our new friends!
And even though it was a little cold and cloudy, moving dirt kept us warm and the overcast really helped make for better photos :D A couple of photos are in the gallery below and you can see the rest of them on our Facebook.
I just want to send a big thank you to Sue McGann, the Marra Farm coordinator, and to our awesome volunteers for coming out with us (You can read Charyn’s blog post on the project here)! It was a ton of fun and we look forward to doing more of these in the future!

Thanks to all the United Way volunteers for turning out. It was great to host you, and we appreciate all the planting and weeding you did at Marra Farm. Come back again!
I had an amazing time helping out at Marra Farm. I truly learned a lot about the simple but hard work of planting vegetables and turning beds. I only turned beds a percent of the farm. I can just imagine the hard work for those who have acres of lands. I respect farmers and for all their hard work to grow foods for their community.
