Homelessness is Over — If You Want It

7 December 2009 No Comment Homelessness

Pivot Legal, a nonprofit legal advocacy organization in Vancouver, B.C. launched a website and video called “Homelessness is Over – If You Want It“. The video is a faux newscast about what ending homelessness in Vancouver would look like.

The newscast does a good job of breaking down what is needed to get the job done: creating enough housing and shelter for everyone, focusing on long-term supportive housing, and including wraparound services for those who need them. This is essentially what we’re doing with our Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness.

While not perfect, I thought the video did a good job talking about the benefits of ending homelessness and how we can accomplish it. But I’m also aware of the fact that I do this work every day so I have a different perspective than most. What’s your opinion?  Does a video like this resonate to people not working on homelessness? Or do you all think it’s cheesy/overly idealistic/etc.?
