Washington Low-Income Housing Alliance’s Petition to the Governor
The Washington Low Income Housing Alliance just put out a petition urging Governor Gregiore to ensure funding for housing as she writes her Supplemental Budget. Here’s their message:
Last year, due to the economic crisis and budget deficit our state’s budget made drastic cuts to funding for vital human services and housing programs like the Housing Trust Fund and GA-U. Hard work from advocates and one-time federal stimulus funds helped to lessen the impacts of the cuts. This year, the Governor and Legislature will consider changes to the biennial budget in what is called a Supplemental Budget.
The Governor is writing her supplemental budget right now and has indicated that she is willing to consider finding new revenue. Sign this petition to let the Governor know that you support new, progressive sources of revenue and that you don’t support an all cuts budget that puts safe, affordable housing and services out of reach for our most vulnerable.
We can protect funding for Housing by funding the Housing Trust, preserve our communities, and rebuild our safety net by funding vital survival programs.
Our state’s budget should not be balanced on the backs of Washington’s most vulnerable residents.
In these dire times, making sure that we are able get people in homes is especially important. If you’d like to sign the petition, you can visit their site here:
