Strengthening Our Community (SOC) Council News

26 October 2009 No Comment United Way News

Last Monday, the SOC Council had our monthly volunteer meeting.  Currently, we are preparing to review applications from agencies seeking funding in the following subject areas: Youth and Older Adults.  In order to make sure that our council is keeping in mind the importance of racial equity in the work that we do, we had an extended meeting to begin discussing the Race Matters information used by UWKC throughout our organization.  This information can be found at The Annie E. Casey Foundation website at the following link: http://www.aecf.org/KnowledgeCenter/PublicationsSeries/RaceMatters.aspx.

The council had a great conversation about the importance of racial equity in the non-profit sector especially in the work that funding agencies like UWKC do each day!  Please take a moment to look at the information found at the above link as it has many things for everyone to think about in the work that we do!
