7waystochangetheworldMicrosoft’s latest operating system, Windows 7, was officially released yesterday.  And in order to generate buzz around it, Microsoft is pulling all the stops.

In Japan, they are selling “Windows 7 Whoppers” which is a Burger King Whopper that is stuffed with 7 — yes, I said 7 — beef patties (You can watch a video of someone attempting to take a bite out of the burger at the end of this post).  Here in the US, Microsoft is working with Family Guy to release a commercial-free episode the show that will somehow integrate Windows 7 into the episode’s plot.

Even the philanthropic arm of Microsoft is getting in on the action by making a video contest called the 7 Ways to Change the World with Windows 7.

Microsoft is asking users to submit videos that are 2 minutes long or less explaining how a Windows PC could help a nonprofit make a greater impact  in their local community.  There will be 7 winners and each person who submits a winning entry will receive a new PC with Windows 7 and a $7,000 grant for their chosen NGO.

You can enter your video and view submitted ideas on their site: http://www.7waystochangetheworld.com/

So far, there are only a few videos submitted so you might have a good chance to win if you enter.  The contest ends on 11/11/09.

If I come up with a good enough idea, I’ll be entering for United Way of King County for sure.

[As promised, the clip of someone trying to eat a Windows 7 Whopper!]
