Wild Things: 10 Opportunities to Volunteer for the Animals
Are you passionate about the well-being of our four-legged friends? Do you find yourself talking to strangers’ dogs when you go to the park? Do you yearn for a pet, but can’t have one? Then you might be interested in some of the volunteer opportunities below. Whether it’s wildlife, barnyard animals, or friendly felines you’re looking for, there’s a way to get involved, give back, and get some hands on animal time in your life.
- Volunteer with Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center and prepare horses before each class and therapy session, lead or walk beside the horses during class, and support riders throughout their lessons.
- Purrfect Pals is looking for Cat Room Attendants at Petco and PetsMart stores in Kirkland, Bellevue, Seattle, Renton, Tukwila and Woodinville. There’s no shame in being a Cat Lady.
- Helps raise funds for PAWS (Progressive Animal Welfare Society) by volunteering at the PAWSwalk Fundraiser
- Have a calming presence? Prep Cats for Surgery with the Feral Spay/Neuter project.
- Are you an aspiring dog whisperer? Volunteer with the Homeward Pet Adoption Center to train and prepare dogs for their forever homes.
- If you’re handy AND love animals, Sara’s Sanctuary could use your skills to repair pens, build enclosures and work directly with their domestic and exotic residents.
- Everyone needs to have their basic needs met, even animals. Host a pet food drive for the Animal Food Bank and make sure that pets of low income owners don’t go hungry.
- Work with dogs while helping prisoners gain vocational skills with the Prison Pet Partnership.
- Serenity Equine Rescue could use your horse expertise with a variety of tasks from feeding to groundwork. . . all in a “serene” farm setting. Sounds pretty nice.
