Seattle's Juneteenth Parade

Today is Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, a state holiday in 31 states (including Washington) that commemorates the abolition of slavery in Texas in 1865. The day is marked by celebrations throughout the country, and right here in King County. Below is a partial list of Juneteenth events taking place this weekend:

Adefua Juneteenth Community Dinner
Saturday, June 20, 2009 4-7 pm
Northwest African American Museum
2300 S. Massachusetts St., Seattle, WA 98144
This event will feature Balla Tounkara, Griot and Master Kora player, Mali, West Africa. Tickets are $45 in advance or $50 at the door (No host beer and wine bar included)
Cultural Attire Requested

Juneteenth Celebration Parade
Saturday, June 20th 2009 at 12 Noon
Pratt Park 18th Avenue South and South Main Seattle, WA 98112

M.A.C.C.T Seattle Juneteenth Potluck
Saturday, June 20th at 5:30 pm

African American Academy’s Juneteenth Event “Celebrating the Life of the Academy”, is on Friday, June 19 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the African American Academy, 8311 Beacon Avenue South.
