Have you seen The Soloist yet?

It’s a movie (and a book) about Steve Lopez (Robert Downey Jr.), award-winning columnist for the LA Times, meeting Nathaniel Ayers (Jamie Foxx), a musically talented homeless man who’s battling mental illness.  Lopez’s encounter with Ayers ultimately led him to become an advocate for LA’s homeless population.

The movie has gotten some pretty solid reviews and it’s definitely worth checking out.

Also, Steve Lopez is going to be in Seattle on May 31st at Town Hall to talk about his experience.  Tickets are only $15 ($5 for students and seniors).  And actually, if you pay $30, you can get “preferred area seating plus a pre-event wine and hors d’oeuvres reception with the author,” which sounds pretty fancy.

Another cool thing is that the money from this event will be matched by the Bill & Melinda Foundation and donated to help end homelessness in King County.

It should be a good event!  You can get more info about it here.
